Reading about this made my heart full. It's wonderful to think that a person who writes so lovingly about the redwoods of California can move across the world and write just as lovingly about the moss and weather of Ireland.
Linda! What a wonderful tribute to your new home, and your expanding identity. Considering what is happening stateside these days, I'd say you've made a clean getaway.
Just yesterday, I learned that the newest US Senator from Ohio, Bernie Moreno, the billionaire-backed asshole who defeated Sherrod Brown in the last election, has introduced a bill that will require people with dual citizenship to choose between their US citizenship and their foreign citizenship. And they have to choose within one year. It's beyond the pale of course, but also symptomatic of the racist, xenophobic and fascist bile spewing from MAGA. I have doubts that it will even make it out of the Senate, but the fact that such a thing is even proposed speaks volumes. Like I said, you've make a timely transition, and vicariously, I share your joy and enthusiasm.
My wife Barbara and I want to return to Ireland, but it probably won't be this year. And when we do, we will seek you out! It will be great to connect with you.
